Road to Recovery: Navigating the new normal of economic development

CHEK’s Hannah Lepine chats with George Hanson, president of Vancouver Island Economic Alliance.

The Vancouver Island Economic Alliance is a member-based organization spearheading regional economic development for the Vancouver Island region. Members represent all of Vancouver Island from Victoria to Port Hardy, as well as the Northern and Southern Gulf Islands.

They’re best known for incubating the ‘Island Good‘ buy-local initiative, their advocacy work in designating the Island as an official Foreign Trade Zone, their work growing the forestry industry and their annual Economic Summit.

Like everyone else the organization has been challenged by the pandemic — pivoting its in-person annual Economic Summit to an online one and working to support their members as they deal with a turbulent economy.

In this episode, Hanson talks about how they’ve navigated the pandemic, and the new project helping make sense of the new normal.

Road to Recovery is done in partnership with Douglas Magazine.
