Taste the Island at Parksville’s Morningstar Grill!

From the classic eggs Benedict to fuel your game to delicious prawn tacos or a hearty plate of nachos for sharing, the new menu at Parksville’s Morningstar Golf Club is the ideal combination of timeless classics – with a twist – and innovative favourites.

But regardless of what you choose, you’ll be savouring a flavourful combination of Island ingredients.

“Our focus is Island food, and we’ve recently become a licensee of the Island Good program, from the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance,” says Morningstar’s Barrie McWha.

“It seems like the right thing to do. I think we’re all trying to pay more attention to what we eat and I think what we’ve all gone through in the last few months underscores the importance of local – and we’re a small business ourselves,” he adds.

“For the Morningstar Grill, that means we’re sourcing as much as we can in the way of local products, both food and beverage. In addition to taking advantage of foods from local growers, producers and markets, we’re buying Island craft beers, spirits and wines.”

  • Innovation and experience: Led by food and beverage manager Julia Howe, a chef and nutritionist, Morningstar’s experienced chef has created the Grill’s new menu, launching to an appreciative audience several weeks ago. “The menu is interesting and fresh, and people seem to really enjoy it,” McWha says.
  • Space to enjoy the view: Following local physical distancing guidelines, the Grill is at 50 per cent seating inside, but also offers outside seating with gorgeous views over the course – the perfect place to sip that Vancouver Island Brewery favourite or Mt. Arrowsmith brew and with a side of Garlic Parm Fries or yummy Eggplant Bruschetta.
  • Get fresh: Fish Fridays are a must for many, whether it’s savoury clam chowder or fish & chips, or a fresh fish special on the dinner menu.
  • Try something new: “I’m really enjoying trying dishes and ingredients I wouldn’t have tried otherwise,” McWha says. “It’s not the same things you see everywhere else, and it’s very tasty and very creative.”

Morningstar Grill is currently welcoming guests: Monday and Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for beverage service only (snacks are available at The Turn, on the 10th tee); Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday to 8 p.m. Weekend breakfast hours are from 8 a.m. to noon, with the restaurant open until 6 p.m.

Reservations are strongly recommended at this time due to limited seating in response to the COVID-19 pandemic – call 250-248-2244 ext. 2 to reserve your table. To book your tee time, visit online at morningstargolf.com.
