ShopLocalNanaimo.ca Launches Local Web Directory

A grant from the federal government to reinforce ‘shop local’ promotions and drive a legacy
for local business spins itself into cyber space from Nanaimo today. The Nanaimo Chamber of
Commerce launched registration for its free online directory of Nanaimo’s local business
community at ShopLocalNanaimo.ca….

A key partner in the program, Island Good, is the unofficial brand mark for ‘made on the Island
quality-products’. ShopLocalNanaimo.ca is offering bursaries to a limited number of
businesses wishing to apply as Island Good licensees when they register for the directory.
Island Good recently expanded its criteria to include retailers.

“This grant extends the Chamber’s ‘Think Local’ philosophy into a legacy” according to Kim
Smythe, CEO of the Nanaimo Chamber. “Our goal is to put the spotlight on specific individuals,
partners and groups who own and operate the local businesses that drive Nanaimo’s economy
– and their part of the battle for BC’s economic recovery.”

Program funding was provided by the federal government and coordinated by the BC
Chamber of Commerce.
